Retirement on the horizon?
If you are thinking about retiring in the new future but aren’t sure what to do next, here are three thoughtful questions I would ask as your coach to help guide you through this transition:
1. What do you envision your retirement looking like, and how do you want to spend your time?
This question encourages you to think beyond the idea of stopping work and explore how you want to fill your time in retirement. Do you want to travel, volunteer, start a hobby, or perhaps mentor others? Getting clear on your vision for retirement helps you ensure that your next steps are in alignment with what will bring you fulfillment.
2. What aspects of your career have brought you the most satisfaction, and how can you incorporate those into your post-retirement life?
This question invites you to reflect on the meaningful parts of your career, the projects, relationships, or achievements that brought you pride. By identifying these, you can seek ways to replicate those aspects in your retirement, whether through part-time work, volunteer roles, or personal projects that align with your strengths and passions.
3. What legacy do you want to leave, and how can you start planning for that now?
Retirement is often an opportunity to reflect on the legacy you want to leave behind. Whether it’s passing on your knowledge, making a difference in your community, or creating something tangible, this question helps you think about the impact you want to have in the years ahead. It also gives you a sense of purpose for this next chapter, guiding your decisions on how to best use your time and resources in retirement.
These questions help you clarify your vision for the future, understand how to stay engaged and purposeful, and ensure that you move into retirement with intention and fulfillment.
